Kim Gordon



ELECTRA has worked with Kim Gordon on several projects since 2005. Perfect Partner, 2005, was a collaboration between Gordon, artist Tony Oursler and filmmaker Phil Morrison. Premiering at the Barbican Centre in October 2005, the production then toured to venues across the UK, Belgium, Sweden and Italy. The collaboration between ELECTRA and Gordon continued with Her Noise at South London Gallery and Tate Modern. Kim Gordon performed at Tate Modern and was commissioned by ELECTRA to produce the Reverse Karaoke installation in collaboration with Jutta Koether. In 2006 Reverse Karaoke toured to Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Grenoble, France for the exhibition; 'Replay: La Sphere Punk', whilst Perfect Partner was screened in the USA at the Alexander Kasser Theatre, Montclair, New Jersey. 2007 saw the relationship between Gordon and ELECTRA continue with Reverse Karaoke opening as part of Under Construction at MAK in Vienna, Austria in May and Galleria Enrico Fornello, Prato, Italy in September. In October 2007 ELECTRA presented Kim Gordon's watercolour portraits at the Zoo Art Fair.

Jutta Koether



Koether collaborated with Kim Gordon to realise Reverse Karaoke in 2005, commissioned by ELECTRA for Her Noise. The piece premiered at South London Gallery in November 2005 and was complemented by a performance, screening and conversation by the two artists at Tate Modern. Reverse Karaoke has since been shown throughout Europe in 2006 at Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Grenoble, France for the exhibition; 'Replay: La Sphere Punk' in 2007; 'Under Construction' at MAK in Vienna in May and Galleria Enrico Fornello, Prato in September. The collaboration between Koether and ELECTRA continues into 2008 when Koether will participate in 27 Senses, an exhibition due to take place at Kunstmuseet KUBE in Alesund, Norway.

Tony Oursler

Tony Oursler was one of the three authors of Perfect Partner alongside Kim Gordon and Phil Morrison. Perfect Partner was a film and performance work commissioned and produced by ELECTRA (co-commissioned with the Barbican Centre and CMN) which premiered at the Barbican Centre in October 2005, and then toured to venues across the UK, Belgium, Sweden and Italy and the US in 2006.

Phil Morrison

Filmmaker Phil Morrison collaborated with musician and artist Kim Gordon and artist Tony Oursler on Perfect Partner. ELECTRA commissioned and brought the film and performance piece to venues across the UK, premiering at the Barbican Centre in London in October 2005, followed by performances across the UK, Belgium, Sweden and Italy, then to the Alexander Kasser Theatre, Montclair, New Jersey in October 2006.

Marina Rosenfeld



New York based artist and composer Marina Rosenfeld worked with ELECTRA presenting a new performance for forty female improvisers. The performance entitled Emotional Orchestra took place at the Tate Modern on 23rd September 2005 and marked the beginning of the Her Noise season. Following this collaboration, in May 2006 she took part in the Tate Modern's Long Weekend with her Sheer Frost Orchestra.

Daria Martin



In 2005 ELECTRA acted as music consultants to artist Daria Martin and paired her with composer Zeena Parkins. Parkins composed the soundtrack for Martin's film Loneliness And The Modern Pentathlon. As a follow up to this fruitful collaboration initiated by ELECTRA, Tate Modern commissioned a live performance titled Regeneration. The work premiered at Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in Spring 2006, with screenings of the film as part of Tate's Triennial. Martin and Parkins continue to work together, most recently on a performance, 'Object Relations' at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2006 and in a new commission by S.M.A.K and Performa in March 2007 at the Watermill Center in New York.In 2005 ELECTRA brought together Norwegian composer Maja Ratkje and Martin as collaborators on Martin's new film 'Wintergarden'. Ratkje not only composed and performed the film's soundtrack, but also played one of the key roles in it. The film was premiered at the reopening of the De La Warr Pavillion in November 2005 and went on to be included in the Tate Triennial and Castlefield Gallery, Manchester between June and July 2006.

Zeena Parkins



Zeena Parkins was paired with Daria Martin in 2005 by ELECTRA, to compose the soundtrack for Loneliness And The Modern Pentathlon. The work was shown at Tate Modern in its premiere in the Turbine Hall in Spring 2006 in screenings as part of the Tate Triennial. The partnership has continued with 'Object Relations' at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2006 and a commission in March 2007 by S.M.A.K and Performa at the Watermill Center in New York.

Maja Ratkje



ELECTRA worked with Maja Ratkje on a collaboration with Daria Martin's 'Wintergarden.' Ratkje is well known as a singer/voice user and electronics player as well as studio engineer, mainly in connection with the Norwegian contemporary improvisation ensemble SPUNK and she works on the composition for the soundtrack of 'Wintergarden' and a role within the film.

Christian Marclay



ELECTRA began working with Christian Marclay in December 2004 on The Sounds of Christmas. The 2-week project co-produced by ELECTRA and Tate Modern, was installed in a specially designed pavilion positioned on the North Lawn in front of Tate Modern and consisted of a collection of 1,200 Christmas records as a publicly accessible archive, alongside projections of the record covers and footage of previous performances, with DJs and turntablists invited on Friday and Saturday evenings to create live remixes from the collection. In April 2005, Christian Marclay's work was presented at the Barbican Gallery in a major retrospective and ELECTRA collaborated with the Barbican on a series of Performance Events. Christian Marclay's Shuffle, co-presented by ELECTRA, Aperture and White Cube, took place in August 2007 at The Council Chamber, Finsbury Town Hall, London, inviting musicians to interpret Marclays Shuffle photographic playing cards as a musical score. Most recently ELECTRA produced the London premiere of Marclay's piece Screen Play. The event took place at Bush Hall in November 2007 as part of the Wire 25 season, a month long season of new music and performance events celebrating The Wire magazine's 25th birthday.

Christina Kubisch



ELECTRA invited artist Christina Kubisch to create two new works for the Her Noise exhibition. Kubisch's piece Security was installed in the South London Gallery, whilst another piece West End Walks, based upon her Electrical Walks was installed at the Goethe Institut during November and December 2005.

Hayley Newman



Hayley Newman and ELECTRA have worked together on projects since 2005 when ELECTRA invited Newman and Aleks Kolkowski to participate in a programme of live music and performance events. The season of Wednesday night events, co-curated by ELECTRA and the Barbican Art Gallery, accompanied the Christian Marclay exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery from February to April 2005. Newman and Kolkowski's performance took place on 20th April; offering live record cutting karaoke. In November 2005, Hayley Newman was invited by ELECTRA to make a new work for Her Noise exhibition at the South London Gallery and created the installation piece Mini Flux.

Kaffe Matthews



Kaffe Matthews took part in the Her Noise exhibition with her ELECTRA commissioned and produced installation piece Sonic Bed. The exhibition took place from November to December 2005 at the South London Gallery. Subsequently Sonic Bed was given the Award of Distinction in the Digital Musics Category at Prix Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria in September 2006 after being a part of the exhibition at the Ars Electronica Festival. The piece has since toured to Stirling, Linz, Lille, Quebec, Taipei and Shanghai.

Emma Hedditch



ELECTRA and Emma Hedditch have a long standing relationship. In 2004, Hedditch showed her film Video Home, Come On! during a season of talks, interventions and screenings at Electric Avenue Studios and The Ritzy Cinema called Electric Weekend. In 2005 ELECTRA and Hedditch continued to work together on Her Noise at the South London Gallery, where Hedditch?s ELECTRA commissioned piece We're Alive, Let's Meet was scheduled over November and December. The curators of Her Noise and Hedditch collaboratively produced a 'Her Noise Archive' for the project. Peacock Visual Arts presented the 'Her Noise Documentary' at the Sound Festival in Aberdeen in November 2006 which was a further collaboration between Hedditch and ELECTRA. The co-produced Her Noise Archive and commissioned 'We're Alive Let's Meet' was given residence at Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall in Norway from November- December 2006. In May 2007 The Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture invited ELECTRA and Emma Hedditch to screen 'Her Noise: The Making of,' with further screenings of interviews from the 'Her Noise Archive' from 14th- 18th May 2007. In 'Art Now Live,' Art Now and ELECTRA co-curated a day of performances at Tate Britain on September 8th 2007. Emma Hedditch generated and published texts in dialogue for this exploration of participation and storytelling.

Carl Michael von Hausswolff



ELECTRA's Lina Dzuverovic and Carl Michael Von Hausswolff co-curated Radio Gallery: The Trans-Communication Lab at The Old Operating Theatre in London on 17th November 2006. 'Trans-Communication Lab' was the closing event of the Radio Gallery series curated by Anna Colin. It examined radio as exhibition space. Von Hausswolff, who is also a composer and visual artist, also participated in the event, examining Electronic Voice Phenomena as referenced by 'Trans-Communication' in the project title. More recently ELECTRA has invited von Hausswolff to participate in '27 Senses,' a group exhibition which will take place at Kunstmuseet KUBE in September 2008 with a series of actions and a three month exhibition.

Jacob Kirkegaard

Jacob Kirkegaard worked with ELECTRA on the Radio Gallery: The Trans-Communication Lab, co-curated by ELECTRA's Lina Dzuverovic and Carl Michael Von Hausswolff. The event, examining radio as an exhibtion space, saw Danish artist Kirkegaard perform live, using his technique of 'sonic time layering' in order to evoke the spirit of the space.

Karl Holmqvist

27 Senses is a project being developed by ELECTRA for Autumn 2008. Karl Holmqvist has been invited by ELECTRA to examine the way in which Kurt Schwitters' has influenced a wide range of contemporary artistic and performative practices at the Kunstmuseet KUBE in Alesund, Norway. Holmqvist took part in Symposium Merzbau 2007 "Organic Functionalism" in November 2007 at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zürich. Holmqvist offered an insight into the development of his performative contribution to the '27 Senses' project.

Melanie Gilligan

Melanie Gilligan worked with ELECTRA in collaboration with Tate Britain?s 'Art Now Live' event. Art Now and ELECTRA presented a day of performance works at Tate Britain in September 2007. Melanie Gilligan presented 'The Miner's Object,' in its European premiere, a performance that combined information and combined information and storytelling in a strange parable about the social character of knowledge.

Olivia Plender

ELECTRA's Lina Dzuverovic and Carl Michael Von Hausswolff invited Olivia Plender to perform a live ghost story at Radio Gallery: The Trans-Communication Lab at The Old Operating Theatre, London in November 2006. Plender, an artist and writer, has since worked with ELECTRA on 'Art Now Live,' a collaboration with Tate Britain in September 2007, enacting a live ghost story from her comic book series 'The Masterpiece.'

Kenneth Goldsmith

Kenneth Goldsmith is working with ELECTRA on '27 Senses,' an exhibition scheduled for September 2008 at the Kunstmuseet KUBE in Alesund, Norway. Kenneth Goldsmith has been invited by ELECTRA to examine the way in which Kurt Schwitters' has influenced a wide range of contemporary artistic and performative practices. The Boredoms

ELECTRA worked with The Boredoms at The Wire 25; a collaboration between ELECTRA and The Wire during October and November 2007 that celebrates 25 years of the magazine with a series of live performances, film screenings, studio workshops and features a number of premieres and new collaborations. The Boredoms presented an exclusive 'in-the-round' performance of 'Vooredoms,' performed for the first time outside of their native Japan on 26th October 2007 at Shoreditch Town Hall, London.

Matmos

Matmos presented a sit-down performance for The Wire 25; a collaboration between ELECTRA and The Wire during October and November 2007 that celebrates 25 years of the magazine with a series of live performances, film screenings, studio workshops and features a number of premieres and new collaborations. Matmos, are celebrated for their use of sampling unconventional sounds and objects - from amplified crayfish nerve tissue, the pages of bibles turning, chin implant surgery and rat cages, performed on Monday 29th October 2007 at Bush Hall, London.

Stapleton and Potter made sound art above the Arctic Circle. Whilst marooned off the Northern Coast of Norway, they made a sonic record of their time on the unfamiliar islands.

Philip Jeck

Experimental turntablist Philip Jeck performed as part of a season of Wednesday night events, co-curated by ELECTRA and the Barbican Art Gallery, accompanying the Christian Marclay exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery from February to April 2005. Using his extraordinary orchestra of ageing Dansette phonographs, Jeck's methods leave much to chance; nothing is pre-planned or calculated.

Steve Bereford

Steve Beresford was invited to interpret Christian Marclay's score for 'Shuffle,' bringing the piece to life for its London premiere on 18th August 2007 at Finsbury Town Hall in London. Beresford is a musician and composer known for his 'free improvisation.'

Bohman Brothers

The Bohman Brothers worked with ELECTRA and the Tate Britain on 'Art Now Live' a day event at Tate Britain on 8th September 2007. The event used performance works to explore ideas of participation and storytelling. The Bohman Brothers offered personal responses to works on display in selected galleries through a series of commissioned spoken word interventions.

Janice Kerbal

Janice Kerbal worked with ELECTRA and Tate Britain on 'Art Now Live,' at Tate Britain on 8th September 2007. Kerbal presented, for the first time as a live performance, 'Nick Silver Can't Sleep.' The performance told a narcotic tale of thwarted desire through the voice of six nocturnal plants.

Lydia Lunch

ELECTRA and Lydia Lunch started working together in 2005 through taking part in Emma Hedditch's Her Noise Documentary. Lunch defies categorization, incorporating many creative endeavours into her practice. She recently worked with ELECTRA on The Wire 25 events celebrating 25 years of The Wire magazine from October to November 2007, Lydia Lunch's UK premiering of her biopic 'Video Hysteries,' complete with a Q&A, followed by a rare performance of her new piece 'Hangover Hotel' took place at St Giles-in-the-Fields, London on 1st November 2007.

Luke Fowler

In collaboration with The Wire, ELECTRA screened Luke Fowler's 'Bogman Palmjaguar' on November 20th 2007 at the Roxy Bar and Screen as part of The Wire 25 season of events. Fowler's piece was shown at the 'Extraordinary Lives' evening curated by Mark Webber.
